Friends, todays conversation is a passionate and fascinating follow up to last weeks podcast with one of Eating Our Way To Extinction’s producer’s Mark Galvin.
I’m chatting with the lead scientist for the powerful, shocking and hopeful documentary, Gerry Bisshop.
For a little official bio: Following 37 years with federal and state government here in Australia, Gerard Wedderburn-Bisshop retired as a Principal Scientist with Queensland Government Natural Resources, where his team monitored broad-scale deforestation.
He co-authored the Beyond Zero Emissions’ Land Use Plan, a plan to take Australia’s land use and agriculture emissions beyond zero, and is the Executive Director of the NGO World Preservation Foundation focusing on deforestation, land degradation and biodiversity loss.
Today we’ll dig deeper into the environmental impacts of our broken food system and debunk a few of the persistent myths designed to sow doubt in the public mind regarding climate change and the environmental impact of the individuals we forcibly breed to become “livestock”.
In this conversation we cover:
- The environmental impacts of our broken food system.
- The effectiveness of certain industries and lobby groups to sow doubt in the public mind regarding climate change.
- Debunking the myth some land is so degraded grazing livestock is the only option.
- Why regenerate grazing is NOT the solution to offset emissions.
- The problem of distrust in science, bias in studies & politicised science.
When you watch Eating Our Way To Extinction it becomes shockingly, abundantly clear that humanity will soon need to choose between taking unprecedented action or suffer the consequences.
As Gerry made clear this is the decade we must take action.
I will link to all the resources team Eating Our Way To Extinction have made available to help you take action below – both via eating plants and planting trees (!) YES, the solutions to these most complicated problems can at an individual level really be that simple.
