Plant friends this conversation with Vegan CrossFit Athlete, Emily Louise Wilson is third in a series of episodes focused on athletes representing PlantBuilt a collective of vegan athletes who recently excelled at the Mr. America Competition.
Emily is very strong. And fit. Especially for her size. Though she can Deadlift: 225lb and Back Squat: 185lb what I find even more impressive is that she is vegan for the animals.
Emily shares: I refuse to participate in a system that is inherently violent and causes mass amounts of suffering to living beings. I want to contribute as little as possible to the suffering on this planet.
That said, she doesn’t fly the V-flag aggressively.
I feel like I am getting that message A LOT recently! It is starting to sink in.
Whether you are competing with compassion as a vegan athlete, or leading with deliciousness as a vegan chef or simply focusing on what you have in common with a non-vegan loved one… instead of the reverse, it seems to be the more effective and more FUN approach.
In this conversation we discuss:
- Emily’s becoming vegan story.
- Any misconceptions Emily had about the lifestyle prior to being vegan.
- Does Emily fly the “V flag” subtlety or more aggressively.
- Negotiating relationships with non-vegan loved ones.
- What advice would Emily give to her younger self / what she wish she knew 10-20 years ago.
- What has Emily changed with her training with age?
- Mental strength and the lessons from CrossFit that are applicable to everyday life and success.
- Are there any habits Emily prioritises to help keep her mindset on track.
