The Political Gut: Quantum Nutrients, Two Brains, Upside-Down Diets, is a book that explores the intersection of food, politics, and personal well-being, offering readers a guide to reclaiming control over their health and ultimately how they perceive reality.
Now that sounds like a bold claim. However I found former professional artist turned wellness brand founder, Brett Casper’s book both fascinating and eye-opening.
To quote thepoliticalgut.com: Casper exposes the insidious ways in which processed foods and deceptive messaging are creating a society of manipulated and unhealthy individuals lacking clear-headedness and objectivity.
We discuss chemical additives and human psychology. Brett’s quest to achieve “true objectivity” and also, what he learnt about how eating meat was affecting his personality.
For a little official Bio: Food expert and author Brett Casper, is recognised internationally as a “pioneer” in the kombucha industry. Founding NYC’s “first kombucha café”, Thailand’s first kombucha brewery and award-winning wellness brand Pure Luck®.
Back to The Political Gut, a chilling insight from the book shares: Speaking at the Oslo Freedom Forum Jack Dorsey Twitter cofounder had this to say, “This is going to sound a little bit crazy, but I think the free speech debate is a complete distraction right now. I think the real debate should be about free will.”
If you think this sounds like A LOT, you’re right. Rather than overwhelming, I see the information shared in The Political Gut, as a powerful testament to the belief that the first step to changing the world is changing the way we live.
This conversation will deeply resonate with you if you have experienced the heart and mind opening insights that come with leaving animals off your plate. If that is not you, then I humbly suggest this conversation is at least as valuable for you to listen to.
In this conversation with cover:
- Brett’s book is a testament to the belief that the first step to changing the world is changing the way we live. What was the first step Brett took?
- The insidious ways in which processed foods and deceptive messaging are creating a society of manipulated and unhealthy individuals lacking clear-headedness and objectivity.
- Chemical additives and human psychology.
- Has this been done with malicious intention, or is it simply as a result of greed and capitalism?
- Brett made the decision to stop eating meat for a year and learned a lot about how meat was affecting his personality.
- The chemical fed to slaughterhouse animals called Ractopamine.
- Brett’s quest for “true objectivity” and being able to guide his decision making processes by minimising any outside influences from inputs like food, drugs, advertising and media.
- In relation to, the human tendency of “Claiming ownership of (the natural world) for ourselves and for profit” does Brett have hope that we can get back to integrating with the world around us rather than seeking to dominate it?
- How to overcome overwhelm when the world we live in – the world we have created – is so broken?
- Brett started asking himself, “What is it that I am doing each day that creates positive energetic force?”
- The brains of conservatives and liberals are actually physically different.
A simple, actionable takeaway?
Do good unexpected things, without reason for reward.
Unexpectedly, as Brett shares you will stimulate joy within yourself and in doing so, contribute to the cycle of love and compassion that as a species I hope (passionately) we can return to.
