One of the many things most of us who are vegan wish desperately for, is that everyone we know and love – in fact everyone in the world – could see what we see.
That is, the horrific cruelty, suffering and abuse inherent in animal agriculture. My guest today Australian animal rights activist Dimitrios Kailaris, is making that more easily possible. Dim’s video DontWatch.org is a 7 minute alternative to the amazing 2 hour film Dominion.
Impressively DontWatch.org coveys the brutal reality of life and death for the animals humans abuse for food, entertainment, clothing and experimentation in a timeframe that we can all make time for.
However will we make time? I hope so. The title invites curiosity. The length is accessible. The content is both deeply distressing and also wide ranging… designed to reach into each of our hearts and help us make the connection we’ve been indoctrinated to ignore.
That ALL animals are individuals deserving of the respect and freedom that each of us humans animals so rightly expects and demands.
As DontWatch.org states in closing: From this moment on you can no longer say that you didn’t know.
In this conversation we cover:
- When did Dim first wake up to the atrocities we humans needlessly inflict on other animals.
- Has Dim’s approach changed over his time as an animal rights activist?
- If farmers don’t even know what is going on inside slaughterhouses, no wonder society has no idea.
- Dairy, “Everyone’s against rape until it involves animals and then it’s just dairy.”
- Dim’s thoughts about the vegan ethic and vegan food specifically prior to going vegan.
- How to deal with living in a non vegan world.
- What does Dim see as the biggest threat to veganism globally?
- How you can take action after watching DontWatch.org.
And so much more!
Vegan friends, we know The Truth is the biggest threat to animal agriculture.
Also, that most humans claim to love animals and like to think of themselves as compassionate. At the very least, most humans would not want to inflict unnecessary harm and suffering on animals.
And yet, it’s also a sad reality that very many humans are lazy and prone to apathy, especially when it comes to the the perceived effort involved in aligning their daily actions with their beliefs.
That’s why as vegans and as animal rights activists we need to get as effective as possible in both sharing the truth AND in sharing how simple, sustainable, healthy, congruent and hugely enjoyable a vegan lifestyle is.
DontWatch.org not only reveals exactly how animal agriculture is rooted in secrecy and animal abuse and compels you to adopt a vegan lifestyle. The site also collates some of the vast abundance of resources to show you the How once you’re convinced on the Why.
If you’re yet to check it out I hugely recommend you do. If you have a non-vegan loved one (or 100) that have not yet been able to face Dominion, Earthlings, Land of Hope and Glory or any of the other amazing yet confronting resources available then this new, compact amazing yet confronting resource could be the next vegan seed to plant in their journey.
