In todays conversation we are delving deeper into how to combat chronic disease using a plant based diet.
However, actually the delving does not have to be too deep. The evidence is mind blowing-y easy to find and yet as you’ll hear today dieticians like doctors are not yet being taught the power of plants to prevent, manage and even reverse our biggest lifestyle related killers.
Can you hear my frustration? With results such as those Alison will share with us soon it seems a crime that nutrition and specifically reducing (ideally eliminating) animal products while embracing a diverse range of plant foods is not front and centre so far as the support and advice made available to individuals facing chronic disease. To be clear, that would be ALL of us. We all face chronic disease either personally or via someone we love. We all deserve to know just how much control we can actually drag back so far as our health outcomes.
Alison Tierney is a board-certified oncology registered dietitian, and focuses on evidence-based nutrition to educate and empower individuals to take their health into their own hands not only after diagnosis but before.
Using plant based nutrition and a focus on whole person health, Alison overcame PCOS and infertility. Now, via her business Wholesome LLC Alison is on a mission to foster a community dedicated to the prevention and management of chronic diseases through individual counselling seminars, recipes, blog development, and online courses.

I’m back on my own and I’m so grateful for health professionals such as Alison.
We just need more of her! Like the amazing Dr’s I’ve chatted to: Dr’s Greger, Barnard, Klaper, Popper and Bulsiewicz it should not come down to luck (or bad luck / lack of access) when someone has a diagnosis that can be better managed, reversed or even prevented by adopting a plant based diet.
The availability of this information is not limited to life and death for the animals. It’s life and death for us too.
I’m very aware that as a vegan, animals right activist the assumption could be made that my ulterior motive with any health advice could be to save animal lives. I think that might limit my advocacy however it is what it is and I’ll always be vegan for the animals first.
However I’ll also always be upfront about my WHY behind sharing certain information: my WHY in this episode is saving human lives and improving human quality of life. It’s really that simple. If you know someone who would benefit from hearing this chat please share the show with them. I’ll also link up my conversations with the amazing #plantstrong docs I just mentioned in the show notes.
