Today Charlotte Cressey and I speak to Veganism as a way of relating to life – with love and respect. That should be obvious I guess.
And yet, it wasn’t always for me. Many of us come to veganism in heart-broken horror at the atrocities inflicted needlessly on animals. We feel anger that we’ve been lied to, that we’ve been complicit in this broken system of exploitation for profit. Often we feel immense frustration and sadness that the people closest to us, just don’t get it.
We might focus first on what we will NOT eat or do. The harm we will no longer inflict. Yet also there is so much more we could be focusing on.
If you’ve followed my journey for any period of time you’ll know my focus has been drawn increasingly and through necessity for survival, to the Evolutionary Power of Love.
Leading with love is certainly more effective and more joyful. However to hear Charlotte speak of a Vegan Paradigm Shift, it also becomes clear just how limiting the status quo structure in society of might equals right, is.
I had epiphany moments in this conversation, in the same way that the pieces fell into place in my conversations with Dr Will Tuttle.
A vegan of 26 years, Charlotte challenges the cultural tendency to believe that cruelty and callousness is a necessary part of “getting by.”
She views veganism, mindfulness, and embodied movement as part of a larger goal to create a peaceful, harmonious existence for humans, animals, and the Earth.
If you too are desperate to see, humanity shift out of the might-makes-right mentality and towards compassion I know you will love this conversation as much as I did.
- At age 3, Charlotte said, “did a cow have to die for me to eat this?” and her path of conscientious objection began.

- How to learn to see yourself as the most powerful person in your life.
- Understanding veganism as the gateway to all human potential.
- Paradigms, our internal set-points and how they impact our realty.
- “Happier people make kinder choices, and that is what changes the world.”
- How self-image helps or hurts our ability to enact health goals.
- How to create the internal conditions that allow self-care to be more seamless.
- It can be very challenging to lead with love as a vegan in a non-vegan world.
- Charlotte’s theory of “embodied love” and “disembodied logic.”
As Charlotte shares: The way you relate to life is the foundation for what you create in your life.
It all starts in your mind. I could not be more 100% in agreement with this. On so many levels.
The contrast in looking at veganism as studying the problem to studying, what is possible.
Or, Might equals right verses, co-operation.
Or, Disembodied logic verses embodied love.
There is the way of relating to life that we have been indoctrinated into from the youngest age. Building blocks of competition, scarcity – othering and prejudice. Gradually eroding and then denigrating our natural born inclination towards compassion and empathy.
And then, there is the choice each of us can make to instead turn our back on that dated and devolved way of relating and instead, open our mind and heart to the possibilities that start with the recognition animals are here with us, NOT for us.
