My guest in this encore episode, acclaimed Financial Times journalist Henry Mance certainly did his research before deciding as an animal lover, he really needed to be vegan.
This included a job at a slaughter house and at a pig farm.
Henry learnt: “Everything I love about animals – their adaptations to the natural environment, their otherness to the human world, their speed and elegance – is curtailed or wiped out on modern farms”
He shares: The truth is that the way we treat animals is not only irrational and unethical – it’s unsustainable.
I could not agree more. I love that Henry has aligned his actions with his values and brought his journalistic expertise to exploring our both our current broken, exploitative relationship with animals and the hopeful, compassionate relationship we could have.
A great start would be, telling our children the truth about our relationship with animals.
Please enjoy this encore episode, Can You Love Animals and Eat Animals With Financial Times Journalist Henry Mance…
Here are the show notes for the original E759: Henry Mance and How to Love Animals In a Human-Shaped World.
In this conversation we cover:
- Henry’s personal story of coming to understand the disconnect in saying you love animals when you still eat animals.
- The research Henry did for How to Love Animals. Including a job at a slaughter house and a pig farm.
- As a young journalist Henry was able to carve a space for himself writing about animals at The FT.
- Nothing should unite animal rights activists and conservationists as much as veganism.
- The positive impact swapping government subsidies from animal products to plant-based products would have.
- The importance of telling our children the truth about our relationship with animals.
