In this genuine and natural conversation author and entrepreneur Bobbi Giudicelli and I discuss one of the misconceptions about a plant based or vegan lifestyle that I’m passionately committed to exploding.
Specifically, that eating plant based or living vegan is restrictive or dangerous for someone who has a history of disordered eating.
At this point I feel I should do all the disclaimers, seek medical advice / I’m not an eating disorder expert – and yet I’m not going to!
I think we’ve been conditioned to blindly follow the advice of experts and not question or do our own due diligence. There are too many established and entrenched institutions that are all about protecting financial interests and maintaining status quo. Sowing fear and confusion. Keeping people stuck and sick. Whether that’s from over eating or under eating.
As Bobbi will share, Freedom From A Toxic Relationship With Food is about embracing a huge, diverse abundance of whole plant foods.
It’s about making eating about your health and your quality of life rather than about your weight.
Or as I say, focusing on what you’re GIVING your body.
In this interview we cover:
- Bobbi’s personal journey from severe eating disorders to food freedom by embracing whole plant foods.
- What advice would Bobbi share with the individual who sees food as fearful and the enemy?
- Bobbi’s book Freedom From A Toxic Relationship With Food: A Journey That Will Give You Your Life Back.
- Big food companies = big bucks marketing.
- Strategies for success if your partner isn’t vegan. Meet people where they are at. Compromise.
- Bobbi and her son Michael’s venture, Read The ingredients and why they felt compelled to start it.
I’m grateful Bobbi chose to share so genuinely both her personal experience with disordered eating and also her evolving relationship living with a non vegan partner.
One of the lessons I’m trying to take away is that you can compromise without compromising your ethics and values. Living a vegan lifestyle is something I remain black and white on. I think it is right. I think eating animals is wrong.
And yet, as I so often discuss with my more compassionate towards loved ones guests, the black or white approach is not always (or often!) effective.
I hope you found this to be a valuable conversation too. Wherever you are in the world if you’d like to spend more time with Bobbi then you can do so online and via her book: Freedom From A Toxic Relationship With Food. I have you linked up in the show notes below.
