As I approach the 12-year anniversary of Healthification, I’ve been reflecting on the incredible vegans I’ve had the privilege to connect with over the years.
The individuals who give me hope and heart. The people with true clarity about what—and who—they stand for. And the courage to speak up… and act, even when it’s uncomfortable, unpopular, or misunderstood.
My original plan was to record a solo episode and share some of these vegan heroes with you.
However when I revisited this conversation with Dr. Melanie Joy—the very first high-profile vegan advocate to ever join the podcast—I found myself completely absorbed in her wisdom all over again.
And I thought… instead of trying to summarise it, why not bring it back?
So today, I’m re-sharing this powerful conversation from 7.5 years ago—because it’s just as relevant now as it was then.
Here are the show notes for the original 552 episode:
Dr Melanie Joy, Carnism and Creating Effective Communication Between Vegans and Non Vegans.
In the interview we cover:
-
Ways to minimise carnistic defensiveness.
-
How carnism needs to validate itself and invalidate veganism.
-
Strategies to strengthen Veganism.
-
Creating effective communication between vegans and non vegans.
-
The future of carnism… is it going the way of other oppressive ism’s?
