You’ve likely heard these five words spoken around the world by so many non-vegans: I Could Never Go Vegan. Perhaps you’ve even said them?
On a quest for the truth, award winning filmmaker Thomas Pickering set out to investigate the leading arguments against the vegan movement.
Spoiler, despite spending time with leading environmental, health and nutrition experts. After going under cover on a pig farm and speaking to slaughterhouse workers, activists and athletes – Tom was unable to find ANY legitimate excuse to Not Become Vegan.
Tom has long wanted to make documentaries that have the power to influence and make a real difference at a time when the world needs it most. With I Could Never Go Vegan, he is doing exactly that.
Please enjoy this conversation about the insights, challenges and learnings involved in creating a film told with impartiality, at times humour and where needed, brutal truth.
A film created to share with the world: Why Veganism Is Not What You Think and why you absolutely can, both Go Vegan and also live and love a fit, healthy, plant-based lifestyle that is better for you, the planet and the animals.
In this conversation we cover:
- Tom’s vegan journey and why his mum raised him not eating meat.
- The environmental impacts of our broken food system.
- Why people stubbornly hold tight to myths surrounding animal agriculture, such as it’s humane or sustainable or necessary.
- The challenges surrounding showing animal welfare abuses in a way that people will watch.
- Tom’s life altering experience going undercover on a pig farm.
- Some of the most compelling information Tom learnt in conversations with experts.
- What were the most frustrating “I could never go vegan” excuses?
- Insights on where we go wrong / how we can get better at being effective advocates for veganism?
- Tom’s not for profit, Running on Plants.
