I was so caught up in the horrors of the dairy industry after prepping for this conversation with Lisa DeCrescente about her original screenplay The Next Girl film that I called it a documentary multiple times!
It’s not. As Lisa shares, this is a drama about a girl born into a dystopian reality that cleverly prevents a non-vegan audience from consciously excluding themselves from seeing the truth.
If you’ve ever been frustrated at the refusal of someone you love to watch a documentary that you know would have a huge and positive impact on them, then The Next Girl might well be a useful tool.
As Lisa shares: “I have sincere faith that this film will… serve as a powerful instrument with which the truth is amplified to inspire change in the hearts of humans.”
This is an open and wide ranging conversation – just wait till you hear where The Next Girl was filmed – HINT, no wonder it is having such a visceral impact on audiences.
I’m grateful that Lisa generously shares her very personal experience dating a non-vegan which went well when it was just about getting healthy with delicious food… until it stopped going well around about the time her partner realised Lisa was also a committed animal rights activist.
In this conversation we cover:
- When Lisa came to understand that the Dairy Industry is at least as cruel and destructive as the meat industry.
- Why Lisa created THE NEXT GIRL in the unique bait and switch way she did.
- The psychological effects of the film on audiences.
- Choosing to focus on the oppressor not the victim to have maximum effectiveness and lasting change creating impact.
- A deathly unique and chilling filming location.
- Dating a non-vegan is fine until you stop being the “Nice Vegan” and wave your animal rights activist flag!
- Lisa is producing The Planet Series Events Tour 2024 for Farm Animal Rights Movement (FARM).
Happily this podcast is first in a series. Coming up soon I will be sharing my conversation with Star Simmons founder of Vkind network and Vkind Studios the all vegan video production company behind The Next Girl and also the star of The Next Girl, Jamie Logan.
Both ladies are absolute powerhouses and do so much to both grow and support the vegan community and advocate for animal rights.
For now, if you are thinking of the loved one you would like to share this film with or even better to organise a screening please head to thenextgirlfilm.com. To connect with Lisa I will also have you linked up in the show notes below.
