This is an interview I’ve been wanting to do for years.
There’s something so incredibly compelling, genuine and raw about my guest today, Australian animal activist Leah Doellinger. I’ve watched her live videos with tears streaming down my face as one of 10,000’s of people all around the world horrified by the trauma Leah puts herself through in order to share the utter hell we humans put animals through.
When Leah recognised the impact her open rescue footage of animals was having she started the now global movement: Meat The Victims which allows the public to meet the victims of our food choices through on the ground live video footage from factory farms.
Meat The Victims brings together a new generation individuals willing to disobey unjust laws together to abolish animal exploitation. Locking down inside the very places the animals are hostage and allowing the public to meet the victims of their choices.
You might be thinking: “It sounds like laws are being broken?”
Yes indeed they are. Unjust laws are being broken to bring about the change that would not happen if animal agriculture were allowed to continue its cycle of forcibly breeding, enslaving, torturing and slaughtering in the secrecy they need and demand.
You know by now I support and believe in all types of activism. Leah has been charged with “trespass” “entering with intent” and “theft of stock” which pretty much tells the heartbreaking story. The thinking, feeling, loving individuals Leah allows us to meet are disposable products – just stock – to those that profit off them.
I know half my listeners are going to be so excited to hear from an activist they already know and love.
And perhaps others might think: “Well this all sounds a bit extreme.”
If you’re of the belief that trespass to expose undeniably horrific conditions for the “farm animals” we’re led to believe lead happy lives and die “humanely” is extreme I urge you please to at least look at some of the footage I’ll link to in the show notes for today.
This is footage that should not be hidden from us. As consumers we deserve to know what we are paying for and in turn supporting. As individuals we need to take responsibility for our daily purchasing decisions and in 2020 it’s well past time we also took responsibility for our ignorance with volition.
If you don’t want to look, please ask yourself: Why? What are you afraid of? Are you more terrified of seeing someone else’s pain and suffering or of the changes you will then feel bound to make?
Ok, lets Meat The Victims with Animal Activist Leah Doellinger.
In this conversation we cover:
- Meat the Victims Actions. What has Leah learnt that will benefit other activists around the world so far as getting the best possible outcomes and the best possible media coverage.
- Media “spin” on animal rights actions and rescue.
- What advice would Leah have loved to receive as a young(er!) activist but didn’t.
- Who are Leah’s role models, especially other strong females in the movement.
Leah talks about the amazing Patty Mark, the founder of Australia’s Animal Liberation Victoria, Check out Patty here:
- Self compassion and Leah’s solutions to stay healthy and positive when the extent of animal exploitation globally can be so daunting.
I’m back on my own and Leah finished that so perfectly there’s really not much else to say.
