Aging beautifully with grace. Living a long, vibrant and fulfilled life.
It sounds appealing right? Especially when the norm is to live perhaps a longer quantity of years yet certainly a lower quality of years.
In her fourteenth book, Age Like A Yogi, Victoria Moran shares, Yoga’s reason for being is to guide us home, back to our true identity that is ageless and eternal.
This book explores spiritual awakening yoga-style, and the fundamentals of yoga’s sister science, ayurveda, for care of the body.
As Victoria emphasises today, no one is too young or too old to embrace these exercises.
Asana, is the “physical exercise” component of yoga, and is fully adaptable to anybody of any age or skill level. Of course the vital mental and spiritual practices of yoga require no adaptations and are at least as impactful.
Featured twice on Oprah and listed by VegNews among the “Top 10 Living Vegetarian Authors,” Victoria Moran is the founder and director of Main Street Vegan Academy, training vegan lifestyle coaches since 2012, and host of the Main Street Vegan Podcast.
Add to that, a 2024 inductee into the Vegan Hall of Fame and longtime yogi, Victoria is the perfect compassionate guide to share both actionable strategies for spiritual awareness and physical health, and also: a way to leave this world kinder, safer, saner, and a little more beautiful.
- What does, “Age Like a Yogi” mean to Victoria?
- Age Like a Yogi emphasises the idea of aging with health and vibrancy. How does the yogic perspective challenge conventional notions of aging in modern society?
- Was there a specific moment in life that inspired Victoria to explore the dual aspects of aging, physical and spiritual, through yoga and Ayurveda?
- Although Age Like a Yogi is tailored for the middle-aged and older, everyone can benefit from the practices it contains. Are there practices Victoria wishes she’d been aware of in her 20’s and 30’s?
- Victoria moved to New York at 50. In her early 70s she trained as a yoga instructor. It’s, “Never too late to make a dream come true.”
- Ayurvedic self-care: learning your dosha (body type), and suggestions on daily routine and living in harmony with nature.
- Vata dosha, increases in everyone in the post-50 decades and looks like signs of aging. How do we care for it?
- Aging is often portrayed as a solitary journey. What role do community and service play in “aging like a yogi”?
As someone new to Yoga and Ayurveda, this conversation leaves me fascinated to learn more – especially in relation to our Dosha’s.
The idea of living in harmony with nature sounds as appealing as it sounds challenging. I feel confident, small steps count though.
Since moving to Noosa, and getting up consistently at 4am (I know, a couple hours early according to Victorias advice!) my favourite time of the day is sitting on my haunches – barefoot in the backyard gazing up at the sky and the stars, listening to the awakening birds with two cats milling around my feet for pats.
It just feels right. Natural. Peaceful.
In the same way that lying in bed, with artificial light, scrolling through other peoples lives and conflicts on social media feels wrong. Fake. Incongruent.
To get your hands on Age Like A Yogi – and remember, pre-orders count – plus they give you access to the day long Age Like A Yogi Seminar and Cookbook I have you linked up in the show notes below.
With that, I want to wish you a beautiful finish to 2024 or start to 2025 – whenever you are listening. May there be peace, love, health and happiness – it might feel like a lot to wish for, however as Victoria shared there are always small steps we can take and what you focus on expands.
I am grateful for your support and Healthification will be back after a brief break with perhaps my favourite repeat guest (a cheeky clue: we are talking World Peace) in early January.
