I’m beyond excited to share todays chat with you! Today I chat to a legit hero of mine: Dr Melanie Joy. If by chance this is your first introduction to this persuasive voice for veganism I strongly recommend you check out the amazing Dr Joy further as her thoughtful, unique and articulate insights have given me such a sense of relief, hope and understanding despite the unavoidable, horrific truth and scale of animal exploitation globally.
Dr Melanie Joy is a Harvard educated social psychologist and vegan activist, perhaps best known for coining the term carnism. Carnism is the invisible belief system that conditions us to eat certain animals. Dr Joy is the president of Beyond Carnism, a non-profit advocacy group which she founded in 2010. She is a powerful voice for the animals and travels extensively as a celebrated speaker teaching strategies to weaken carnism, to strengthen veganism and as covered in her most recent book Beyond Beliefs, to create effective communication between vegans and non-vegans. I first discovered Dr Joy via her amazing TED talk (ranked in the top 1% of viewed TED talks) titled: Towards Rational Authentic Food Choices.
Dr. Joy is the eighth recipient of the Ahimsa Award – previously given to the Dalai Lama and Nelson Mandela – for her work on global nonviolence, the Empty Cages Prize – previously given to Tom Regan – for her contribution to furthering the cause of animal rights, and the Peter Singer Prize for strategies to reduce the suffering of animals.
Let’s explore Carnism and Creating Effective Communication Between Vegans and Non-vegans with Dr Melanie Joy…

Creating effective communication between vegans and non-vegans.
The future of carnism… is it going the way of other oppressive ism’s?
Again you can listen to the interview, Carnism and Creating Effective Communication Between Vegans and Non-vegans with Dr Melanie Joy here:
WOW right? What a powerhouse. I have so much respect for this incredible lady and the impact she is having particularly so far as sending carnism the way of all the other oppressive ism’s our society has evolved beyond.
Also for the peace, validation and coping strategies she arms us with as individual vegans while we press forward in our quest for first an “as vegan as possible” world and then, in time (you know I’m the eternal optimist right?) a happy, healthy, compassionate vegan world.
