Your ideal every day is a concept I’ve been revisiting recently.
Your ideal every day is a chance to step off the hamster wheel. To design a little or even better a lot of that which makes you happiest into your every single day. To stop playing catch up or borrowing from tomorrow or worst of all putting happiness off till when you do this, achieve that (insert YOUR biggest want here) because, today counts.
If your ideal every day involves you rockin around in a fit healthy body you love then by necessity it’s also going to involve some fab food and some form of exercise / movement. As such, it’ll also necessitate some managing of Time-Life-YOU.
I’m going to structure todays show on:
Your Ideal Every Day
around the 3 categories vital to everything body gain that I often default to:
One: Fuel (that’s everything food).
Two: Move (that’s everything exercise).
Three: Life (that’s everything time).
Before we power on, credit where credit is due – I first heard about Your Ideal Every Day through Sharon Pearson of The Coaching Institute and I know Sharon credits the concept to internet marketer Frank Kern.
Let’s cover a couple of caveats too:
First: the concept of your ideal every day is not there to make you feel frustrated or inadequate because you’re not there yet. To the contrary, it’s there in part as the best case scenario blueprint to work towards and also in part to help you acknowledge the little bits of ideal in each day.
Second: I find getting clear on MY ideal helps me appreciate the light and dark. Or awesome and less awesome. Rather than a ho-hum-hamster-wheel-blur of same. The MY for me and the YOUR for you is vital. This show isn’t going to focus on the tactics surrounding The Ideal Day of Eating or Exercising or anything.
If you want tactics I’ve covered them in posts such as: My Food Diary: An Ideal Fat Burning Day and, for my Vegan friends: the 4-part High Protein Low Carb Vegan Meal Plan series:
Today is about how happy, fulfilled, free or whatever it is that you feel on those likely all too rare ideal days. It’s about identifying and then nurturing the conditions to support more happy, fulfilled and free. Again, those are the states I’m seeking out. Perhaps your ideal day might be a little more about excitement or calm or connection?
Onwards,
One: Your ideal every day Fuel.
I propose that you view food as Yes for sure something delicious and hugely pleasurable yet also the information that tells your body how to function, feel and look.
From here, the question to ask yourself: How would I Fuel my body in my Ideal Every Day?
=> One of the things that is important so far as Fuel in my Ideal Every Day is I want to feel energized and satisfied and absolutely 100% guilt and restriction free.
As I’ve shared before I’m an emotional eatter. The fact is I get a heap of pleasure from food. If you do too – that’s cool – it simply means you (we!) need to find the foods that tick both our joy box and also do right by our body.
Maybe food isn’t about energized, satisfied,100% guilt and restriction free for you. Let’s get actionable early today: What would be hugely appealing to YOU?
Because I want you to enjoy the journey to your ideal every day here are a couple more questions to ask yourself:
A. What can I appreciate about the way it is now?
So here’s how this might look for my energized, satisfied, 100% guilt and restriction free food example:
=> I can and happily’ish do pay a little extra for high quality foods like avocado, organic green leaves, organic berries and also hemp / chia seeds. And,
=> I can and do spend a little extra time making dairy free pesto and high protein zucchini hemp seed hummus from scratch.
B. How can I progress today towards the way I want it to be?
Again here’s how this might look for my energized, satisfied, 100% guilt and restriction free food example:
=> Each month as I’m able I add a little more organic food to my weekly shopping list. Starting with the dirty dozen which are:
Apples / Celery / Capsicum / Peaches / Strawberries / Nectarines / Grapes / Spinach / Lettuce / Cucumbers / Blueberries / Potatoes And,
=> Each month as I’m able I hunt down time hacks for my energized, satisfied, 100% guilt and restriction free food shopping and preparation. So perhaps that’s starting with home delivery? Or maybe I can source prewashed organic greens – that’d rock!
Two: Move.
Given the pill or operation that does fit and healthy for you won’t ever be invented….
The question to ask yourself: How would I Move my body in my Ideal Every Day?
=> One of the things that is important so far as Moving in my Ideal Every Day is that I get to move every day.
I’m often tempted to skip an exercise session or perhaps grab a lift to or from work instead of walking.
I flirt with the idea of “How much more could I get done?” In the same way that I sometimes question “How much more could I get done?” if I just grabbed a sandwich for lunch or bought my dinner.
From time to time I’ll even test it – briefly – faster than you can say: ultra-moody-irritable-intolerant-UN-fun-Kate (!) I’m back to making time to move and prepare great food each day.
What would be hugely appealing to YOU? And of course a couple more questions to ask yourself:
A. What can I appreciate about the way it is now?
So here’s how this might look for my move every day example:
=> 2 days a week regardless of what’s happening I do not rush my weights session. I enjoy a gorgeous self indulgent, focused 60 minutes. I do lift weights another 3 days however those sessions generally are on a less indulgent timeframe. And,
=> 1 day a week regardless of what’s happening I go for a stunning walk along the beaches. It’s generally on a Sunday morning and it’s genuinely mind blowingly beautiful.
B. How can I progress today towards the way I want it to be?
Again here’s how this might look for my move every day example:
=> 2 days a week I train at a gym I don’t work at. I’ve been lazy with this one because if I’m short on time it’s easiest to train at work – however it’s a work in progress as in my ideal every day I spend less time at work. And,
=> 1 day a week I do a hugely effective body weight routine at home. Again, it’s a work in progress – I find it easier to default to gym equipment however the more I think about it my ideal every day involves less time in the gym.
Three: Life.
Given I’ve described Life as everything Time, because life = time and time = life… this is the most important category to focus on.
The question to ask yourself: How would I spend my Life / Time in my Ideal Every Day?
=> One of the things that is important so far as Life / Time in my Ideal Every Day is some UN-scheduled time.
I can take planning to the extreme and in a sense create my own little suffocating prison of structure and routine.
Knowing that I have Life / Time in my day that is not scheduled for anything in particular is hugely appealing. Yet surprisingly challenging to stick to given my attraction to ticking off boxes on to do lists and my desire to see progress.
What would be hugely appealing to YOU? And of course a couple more questions to ask yourself:
A. What can I appreciate about the way it is now?
So here’s how this might look for my UN-scheduled time example:
=> I don’t commit to anything I’m not 100% super-crazy-keen to do on a Sunday. Ever. And,
=> I don’t schedule one on one work in the evenings. Or really even after 1pm.
B. How can I progress today towards the way I want it to be?
Again here’s how this might look for my UN-scheduled time example:
=> The 90 minutes before bed are untouchable-immune-to-scheduling. That is precious UN-scheduled time. And,
=> At the end of the working week (that’s Saturday afternoon) I will not rush. I’ll make plans for later or I won’t make plans… whichever I need to do to not rush!
To get actionable today, which of the 3 categories vital to everything body gain feels least ideal in your every day right now?
So that’s,
One: Fuel (or food).
Two: Move (or exercise).
Three: Life (or time).
Because gratitude is always a great place to start: What can you appreciate about the way it is now?
And because I do want you to take action: How can you progress today towards the way you want it to be?
