Certified Running Coach and Sports Nutrition Specialist Claire Bartholic, wasn’t always a runner.
She started running in her mid-30s simply to get in shape for her high school reunion. It wasn’t about getting faster or racing; it was, to be honest, mainly about vanity.
But something changed in her as the miles slowly added up. The reunion came and went and she kept running.
After much marathoning success, Claire shares how being “a fast girl” became an obsession. Also, why she needed to let go of marathon training and racing.
As a coach, she has now led hundreds of athletes to the best performances of their lives through science-backed training, plant-based nutrition, and proven mindset programs.
In this conversation Claire and I discuss, nutrition as fuel. How your life (and stress) affects your runs and importantly, how you can reach your running potential at any age.
In this conversation we cover:
- As an athlete Claire transformed from a 4:02 marathoner to a 2:58 finisher at age 42, on a plant-based diet. Did she think being plant-based might be a disadvantage?
- As a Certified Running Coach and Sports Nutrition Specialist Claire helps people reach their running potential at any age.
- Nutrition as fuel. What changes might someone with a marathon goal need to make to their nutrition that could be fearful or just different to what is “normal” in todays society?
- How your life (and stress) affects your runs.
- Claire’s book, The Planted Runner: Running Your Best With Plant-Based Nutrition.
- Go2’s foods that are perfect before and after a run.
- Why Claire needed to let go of marathon training and racing?
- Claire’s struggles with post-marathon identity, imposter syndrome, and FOMO.
It’s an interesting line to walk between the obsession that works to get you results – perhaps in running, or business or SO MANY THINGS!
It works and so you do more of it, until at some point it does not work. Or something breaks. Hopefully not YOU.
I know how tied our identity can get to what we do and what we excel in. We put huge pressure on ourselves. I absolutely do that as a vegan health coach – advocating for the lifestyle. It takes wisdom to know when to take a step back, and courage to follow that awareness!
