Do you have someone you’d like to be when you grow up?
It’s a funny thing to say I guess. For several years my guest today has been that lady for me!!! I’ve looked to Jan Saunders of The Beet Retreat Vegan Bed & Breakfast in stunning Noosa as someone whose energy and lifestyle and attitude are just so very aligned with everything I respect and everything I aspire to!
Now that’s a fair bit of pressure to put on someone I’m yet to meet however I’m confident my admiration Is well placed.
Jan writes: In 2012, the growing pain and outrage I felt in my heart witnessing cruelty in the name of food production particularly, led me to become Vegan. The good health, sense of peace and abundance of vitality that came as by-products of that led me to wonder how I could help others discover that.
At that point Jan had been a member of Victoria Police for 30 years. I imagine it was part of her identity.
In this conversation we’ll discuss the internal conflict that led Jan to leave the Victorian Mounted Police. Solo, adventure travel in your early 50’s. The somewhat desperation based beginnings of The Beet Retreat B&B for short stay plant based retreats, delicious whole food plant based food and so much more!
In this interview we cover:
- Jan’s journey from career cop to animal rights and plant based health advocate.
- Lessons learnt from Jan’s solo, adventure travel in her early 50’s.
- The Beet Retreat vegan bed & breakfast! It started in Victoria and in 2019, Jan moved to the Noosa region.
- Self compassion throughout the decades: “Nurturing others begins with respecting and nurturing ourselves. Being kind, likewise.”
- Interacting with non-vegans with grace and compassion.
- Being a plant based athlete. The day after Jan’s 54th birthday, she set off to traverse the Pyrenees.
- The Beet Retreat meal planner and nutrition guide.
- The best advice Jan still finds it hard to follow!
I’m sure I’m not alone in thinking escaping to a revitalising Beet retreat would be absolutely perfect right now?
