Plant friends if you have been listening to this podcast for a while you likely know I am a huge red wine lover!
Shiraz especially. I was delighted to recently discover Goodwill Wine, Australia’s only certified social enterprise wine company.
Goodwill was founded by David Laity in 2009 and has donated over half a million dollars to Australian charities by empowering its customers to choose which charity they would like to receive half of the profits from their order of wine.
Organisations like: Animals Australia, Edgar’s Mission, Sea Shepherd Australia, Animals Asia, Greyhound Rescue, The Orangutan Project and the Animal Justice Party.
I find David’s relentless commitment to creating a business that focus’s on purpose over profit and has given back from day one, hugely inspiring. As you will hear it has been a journey of much patience, persistence and so much hard work to get to where Goodwill Wine is now.
Please enjoy this conversation with Goodwill Wine’s David Laity where we discuss Rewarding Good People with Great Vegan Wines.
In this conversation we discuss:
- David takes us back to the origin of Goodwill Wine and his mission to “pay forward” the generosity shown to him after the Black Saturday bushfires.
- People are losing faith in government to make change and instead looking to support ethical businesses.
- David’s choice to stock vegan only wines and support so many animal charities.
- A couple of the MANY stories sharing of the tangible impact of Goodwill Wine.
- How David uncovers Australia’s best kept wine secrets and is able to offer quality wine at up to 50% off cellar door prices.
- Lessons in creating a sustainable business without the greed. It sounded so easy!
- Were there any specific times where David felt close to quitting.
- What if David had just built a profitable wine business and then reverse engineered the impact part into it?
- In 2019 Goodwill Wine took on its first round of angel investment, what has that allowed?
- The state of charities in Australia given the current economic climate.
I think David put it perfectly, if you are buying wine online in Australia there is NO reason to not buy from Goodwill Wine.
I am absolutely sold. I am obviously a dedicated wine devourer and my clients also regularly get wine as end of year gifts. 100% they will all be from Goodwill Wine now.
Of course it’s not just about wine or Australia though. This conversation serves as a timely reminder that even if we have less money in our pocket to give to our favourite charities we can seek out the social enterprises that supply the products we already buy and give our money to them instead of forever fuelling the purely profit centred corporations.

Most of the problems in this world come from the relentless pursuit of profit above all else. I wanted to be part of the solution, not the problem.
