Desiree Nielsen is a registered dietitian with a focus on plant-based nutrition and gut health.
Desiree runs a nutrition consulting practice with a focus on complex, chronic digestive and inflammatory disease and plant-based approaches to optimal health. She is the author of multiple books, the latest being her new cookbook on gut health, Good For Your Gut: A Plant-based Digestive Health Guide and Nourishing Recipes for Living Well.
As the host of the evidence-informed wellness podcast, The Allsorts Podcast, she interviews leading experts on topics such as gut health, plant-based nutrition, and more.
I hope you find this conversation as fascinating and informative as I did. Gut health is complicated and as impactful as the food we feed our gut microbiome is, it’s far from the full picture. We discuss the impact of stress and poor mental well-being on our gut health, the importance of routine and other non-food related tips to maintain optimal gut health.
So far as the deliciousness? Desiree’s approach is to focus on what to eat as opposed to what to avoid or eliminate. It’s about making food joyful and abundant, as evidenced by the 90 deliciously nourishing recipes in Good For Your Gut.

Something we didn’t get to touch on that Desiree talks about frequently is the difference between Common and Normal. Sadly it is extremely common today to struggle with gut issues. That does not mean it’s normal. And it does not mean the debilitating discomfort needs to continue.
There is so much we can do to take control of our gut health and accordingly our overall health. Perhaps it starts with a book like Good For Your Gut, which is impressively judgement free while advocating for a plant-based lifestyle. Or perhaps it starts with a free resource like The All sorts Podcast.
I will have you all linked up to everything Desiree in the show notes below.
