Today’s conversation is a mix of some of my favourite things – lifting weights, plant-based nutrition and how to manage your schedule to rock a fit, strong, healthy body while living and loving a vegan lifestyle.
Dr. Minil Patel—aka @drironjunkie online is a powerhouse in both medicine and muscle. A General Practice Registrar from London, Minil graduated from King’s College London with degrees in Neuroscience and Medicine before making the switch to a fully vegan lifestyle in 2017—driven by ethics, backed by science.
Since then, he’s been on a mission to show that you don’t need meat to build muscle or thrive. With a background in powerlifting, strength training, and bodybuilding, Minil has been featured in Men’s Health Online and speaks at major events like Vegfest, Vegan Camp Out, and VegMed.
He’s also part of Plant-Based Health Professionals UK and is featured in the documentary, I Could Never Go Vegan.
Listen to the end, for Minil’s practical strategies so far as managing your career, training and nutrition without burning out.
In this conversation we cover:
- Growing up in a household where the women were vegetarian and the men ate meat.
- What’s something Minil knows now—that he wishes he could go back and share with his younger self. Would he have listened?
- Was there a defining moment or piece of info that solidified Minil’s decision to become vegan, for the animals?
- Mistakes Minil made early days so far as nutrition verse his approach today.
- Minil has studied both neuroscience and nutrition. How does our diet influence brain function?
- Minil’s advice for those looking to align their actions with their values while also maintaining or gaining muscle.
- Tips on balancing a demanding job with regular training and staying in control of your meals.
- Minil’s a doctor, he trains, is active on social media—how does he manage it all without burning out?
- How to get back on track with training and nutrition after falling off.
- If Minil could sit down with any doctor or influencer pushing keto / carnivore, who would it be, and what would he ask them?
I loved Minil’s take on not wasting energy on conversations with people who are
not open-minded enough for there to be any value in the exchange.
I am learning, what you say No to, dictates what you get to say Yes to. I am grateful you said Yes to this conversation.
We didn’t meet up in Noosa, however I was able to direct Minil and his girlfriend to a gym that was open Sunday morning – as that was a negotiable for them both! Respect.
