This conversation is for those who want to get healthy beyond 40, yet also applicable to us all. Michele Riechman is a personal trainer, yoga teacher, and health coach with her doctorate in physical therapy.
When prioritising her own health took a back step as a busy mum, Michele decided some exercise is better than no exercise and today she shares how to create healthier habits, lose weight, and keep it off!
Importantly, our starting point is small. Manageable. Lowering the bar to achieve consistent results that keep you motivated. Although I believe we can get and stay fit, strong, lean and healthy at any age, it would be irresponsible of me to suggest it doesn’t change as we get older.
Our bodies change certainly. Yet also our habits, priorities, time and emotional resources change. Michele is all about recognising that wellness starts within. This is a mind and body based approach to taking care of yourself.
- After Michele’s third child, she struggled to manage everything she had to do, let alone take care of herself.
- Keeping it simple to fit exercise into your day.
- Being connected to your body and knowing how to listen to it.
- Practical strategies to help you navigate your emotions, so you can start doing what you plan to do.
- Eliminate the stress from “trying” to get healthy by lowering the bar and “doing” consistently.
- What has changed, pre 40 and post 40 for both Michele and I?
The older I get the more I exercise for my mental health as much as my physical health. Equally, with the wisdom of age I now understand that a supportive Mindset is the one thing common to those of us who consistently stick to healthy habits.
That is freeing. Because if you’re not there yet, your attitude or mindset is one thing that is 100% within your control. Genetics. Time. Money. None are as important as the belief that you are a person who prioritises your health.
Who do’s the do, whether you feel like it or not.
To connect with Michele I’ll have you linked up in the show notes and also, on the matter of creating effective habits and the identity beliefs to reinforces these habits I highly recommend one of my most downloaded episodes ever, E592 with Atomic Habits author James Clear.
