I was immediately drawn to vegan neuropsychologist, Dr Ash Nayate’s work on discovering she can help us “develop skills to transform anger, guilt, and sadness into becoming a more resilient change agent.”
Wow, the thought of effectively transforming the anger and sadness I feel living in a non vegan world? Count me in!
In her Melbourne based private practice and through her book, Staying Positive in a F*cked Up World, Ash works to help vegans and activists improve their mental health and wellbeing.
She made the shift from meat-eater to vegan overnight after watching the documentary Earthlings in 2008.
In case, like me you are new to the term: a neuropsychologist is a psychologist who specialises in understanding the relationship between the brain and behaviour.
This conversation is full of actionable advice that I needed to hear. I trust it will be helpful for you too.
In the interview we cover:
- Dr Nayate’s work to help vegans and activists improve their mental health and wellbeing.
- The mental health benefits of a vegan lifestyle.
- Dr Nayate’s book, Staying Positive in a F*cked Up World.
- How to develop skills to transform anger, guilt, and sadness into becoming a more resilient change agent.
- How to cope when friends and family are not supportive of veganism.
- Effective communication between vegans and non-vegans.
- How to remain positive in a non-vegan world.
This certainly was a timely conversation for me!
Ash, brings a fresh perspective and tool-kit to this important topic. Equally, listening to Ash explain some of the strategies to change habits and communicate effectively with non vegans I recognised similarities with what I advocate and practice in relation to health.
There is never one quick fix – however there IS always a solution for those of us willing to get out of our comfort zone, try new things and then stick consistently with what works for us.
