Lara Heimann is a physical therapist, international yoga pioneer and creator of the LYT Method® combining physiology, kinesiology, neurology, and functional movement patterns to yield a more cohesive philosophy.
She’s also a passionate vegan chef and activist who’s collaborated with Farm Sanctuary.
Lara’s all about helping people feel at home in their bodies—using movement as a way to connect not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and even ethically.
In this conversation, we go deep into what sustainable movement really looks like, how we can retrain our bodies and brains to move with intention, and why Lara believes smarter movement has the power to lift us—and the world—up.
- Lara, pushed through a marathon at 18 without training—what did that experience teach her about the brain-body connection?
- How does that lesson show up in her work today?
- With our modern lifestyles, what is the biggest disconnect between how we move and how we should be moving?
- Lara, “teaches (people) to feel at home in your body,” I love it. What does this mean to her?
- Lara has worked with people across 50+ countries—has she noticed cultural differences in how people relate to movement and body awareness?
- Lara’s movement methodology LYT Method® is rooted in sustainability—not just for the environment, but for the body. How do those two ideas intersect?
- What are some unexpected parallels between how we move our bodies and how we treat the planet?
- In the wellness space, we often hear about “bio-individuality” in nutrition. How does Lara respond to people who say veganism isn’t for everyone?
- As someone who runs a global movement method, teaches, coaches, and advocates for animals, how does Lara stay grounded and avoid burnout?
- What’s something about your own movement or wellness journey that might surprise people?
- If someone could make one simple shift today in their daily movement to feel more at home in their body, what would it be?
Since this conversation I’ve contemplating the parallels between how we move our bodies and how we treat the planet. We evolved IN the natural world. Moving through it and as part of it, with an emphasis on movement.
Now most of us do all we can to seperate ourselves from the natural world. We move less and less. Even those of us who prioritise daily movement. The separation not only negatively impacts our health, it also enables our poor treatment of the world that, we used to feel one with.
I’m also hit by Lara’s insight that, without sustainability in our bodies we struggle to find the will to care about anything beyond us.
When all you feel is, physical pain and exhaustion. Or phycological fear and disappointment, in the world or in yourself… the energy, confidence and hope to take action – well, I imagine it evaporates.
If you have a type of movement you love, this is your reminder to make it a priority – no matter what else the world is throwing your way. For better or worse I’m clinging to my habits of lifting weights and daily walks in natural like they are my life-raft right now. Sustainability in our bodies really helps us feel alive and energized and keeps us well tuned so that we can be stronger for the other things in our lives that matter. The environment, other beings on this planet. Share on XLara’s website: https://lytyoga.com
