Food for Profit is the first feature documentary that exposes the links between the meat industry, lobbying and the corridors of power.
It is the result of a 5-year investigation by journalist Guilia Innocenzi and film maker Pablo D’Ambrosi which reveals shocking corruption between the European Parliament and the 387 billion euros-funded factory farming industry.
The horrifying fact that individuals farmed for their flesh and secretions are merely seen as products to be profited from is not new information for many of us. However Food for Profit also reveals the complete disregard for humans, for the environment – for anything except productivity and profit.
Wherever we live, we think: “it’s not like that here.” Yet to cling to that belief is to delude ourselves and to continue to support this broken, corrupt food system.
To drag back some hope – as we will hear in the conversation with co-Director Pablo, Food for Profit, has been chart topping-ly well received in Italy and is now expanding it’s screenings internationally.
- Food for Profit has been dubbed ‘the European Cowspiracy.’
- Wherever we live, we think: “it’s not like that here” yet the sad truth is, factory farms always mean suffering and destruction.
- The world premier was at the European Parliament in Brussels. How did Pablo and Guilia manage to get that screening and what was the reaction?
- How Europe is transferring hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ money into the hands of intensive farms.
- The political corruption that allowed intensive farms to receive a large part of the almost 400 billion euros of taxpayers money, disguised within the Green Deal.
- They managed this by diverting the money in subsidies to crops for animal feed.
- Food For Profit, shows 90% of the meat consumed in Europe comes from factory farms.
- Food culture in Italy. Did the pride and passion surrounding Italian food perhaps mean Italian’s were more open to learning the truth behind the meat lies they have been sold?
- Some of the most shocking insights after secretly recording MEPs.
Some of those insight from the fake agri-food lobbyist secretly recording MEPs were truly chilling. Seriously, to hear: “if we do it in Africa it’s better because we limit the risks” uttered from the mouth of someone in a position of such power is terrifying.
To know this is the world we still live in.
Whenever I have a conversation with someone, not referring to industry here in Australian I feel compelled to look into our numbers. Aussie friends, 95 per cent of all “meat” chickens and pigs plus, almost 80% of ‘beef’ products in Australian supermarkets come from intensively farmed animals.
So this is the Food For Profit world we exist in. Wherever we live. Equally, our actions count. Perhaps they are all that counts.
Each meal without animals, each respectful little vegan seed planting conversation and absolutely, each screening or sharing of films like Food For Profit are impactful and are also actions that nurture the sense of optimism and progress it can be tough to hope for.
