This is an insightful conversation about a topic that feels close to mind for me and so many of my clients right now.
Whether you call it hustle culture or always being ON or the hamster wheel – however you describe it, from personal experience it does not feel joyful, sustainable or even especially effective!
Me&my is a Sydney nutritionist practice that seeks to enhance and enlighten the well-being of others.
Their approach is to look at the whole picture, to ask better questions, listen a little harder and delve a bit deeper to find the best path to a solution.
My guest today is CEO of me&my wellness, clinical nutritionist and lifestyle medicine specialist Anthony Hartcher. Anthony holds three bachelor’s degrees in Complementary Medicine; Nutrition and Dietetic Medicine; and Chemical Engineering.
In this conversation we cover:
- Anthony’s journey to providing holistic health solutions and using food as medicine.
- In the age of digital connectivity… does Anthony believe in balance? Is it something to strive for?
- The Three Big Lies of Hustle Culture. (taken from this article on meandmywellness.com.au)
- Time Scarcity. It’s not about managing time—it’s about managing decisions and priorities.
- Money as the Ultimate Goal. Financial success doesn’t always equate to emotional or personal fulfilment.
- The Toxicity of Constant Busyness. Busy doesn’t necessarily mean being productive.
- Is it possible to achieve success and contentment without pushing all the time?
- The harmful effects of hustle culture.
- How to avoid hustle culture.
- Best piece of advice Anthony has ever received.
I hope you find that conversation as valuable as I did. It’s a fine line to negotiate between the drive and passion that naturally draws people to you and the crazy, pushing, unsustainable HUSTLE.
Things like consistency, hard work and even sacrifice count. And yet, the things I work hardest at like this podcast which I do for free and the Plant Positive Journal which is also a venture of the heart, they don’t feel like work. They feel like a privilege.
One that will receive more of my time VERY SOON! I think that might be why at an unconscious level I sought out this conversation. To further support a decision my heart has already made. More on that soon.
For now, if you’re spending time earning money doing something you might have gratitude for yet would NOT do for free I recommend setting both daily and weekly boundaries with your time and your energy. Also acknowledging that whether we are talking about business or health sometimes it’s a season of maintaining, sometimes it’s a season for sprinting and also you need rest periods.
It’s vital to cultivate a respect for and trust in your body to know when you can push harder and when you need to ease off.
