Most of the time, I use this podcast to connect with vegans I deeply respect—
people I turn to when I need hope.
When I want to feel inspired to play a bigger game.
When this world feels cruel, apathetic… and I feel alone in it.
Today I feel drawn to speak to you.
Just the two of us.
If you’re listening, I’m genuinely grateful. And if you often feel angry at the state of the world… deeply, almost incomprehensibly disappointed by the strength of greed, and the weakness of courage and integrity…
Then this is for you. And honestly—it’s for me too.
Because I need to hear this.
What you do counts.
Your actions, your heart, your stubborn optimism and relentless fight for a lighter, kinder, more compassionate world – matters.
And on the days when you feel like you’re not doing enough?
You’re still having an impact.
The seeds you’ve already planted—they’re growing. Even if you can’t see it yet.
And the rest you need? The pause, the space, the recovery?
That’s not you caring less. That’s you caring in a way that lets you keep going.
It’s a necessity your body, heart and mind deserves, so it can come back stronger.
The great Gary Yourofsky took 10 years off—and came back just as fierce.
He told me Gary V.2.0 was kinder, gentler—especially to himself. I used to hope that was true for his sake.
Now? I’m not so sure.
I think he’s driven by a force beyond his control. A force for good… yet one that can be painful to be consumed by.
Because that’s the thing.
When you care so much it hurts… there is no going back.
You’re not un-seeing. The switch has been flipped.
And even though you wouldn’t reverse it— it would be nice… sometimes… to move forward with a little more ease.
So here’s something I keep coming back to.
A framework I’ve been using almost daily:
Clarity. Cost. Change.
I want you to think of something that’s costing you too much time, energy, and joy right now.
And this part matters— I’m not talking about the anguish of living in a non-vegan world. That’s not misplaced. That’s not something I believe needs fixing.
I’m talking about the things that drain you… that shouldn’t.
This is the type of thing I’d love you to think of as I walk us through the, Clarity – Cost – Change Framework.
Clarity. What happens if nothing changes?
Not hypothetically—honestly. Where does this go? What does it do to your relationships… your health… your day-to-day sense of peace?
And within that—what’s actually in your control?
Not other people. Not the system. You.
Your responses. Your habits. The things that either support you… or quietly drain you.
Meditation. Journaling. Food prep. Exercise. Time alone. Time in nature. Sleep.
At my worst, these have felt like life rafts. At my best, they’re things I’m grateful for every single day.
From there—Cost.
What is this taking from you right now? Time. Energy. Joy.
And what does it take from you if nothing changes? In a month… a year?
Then—Change.
Given what you now see clearly… and what you know it’s costing you…
What are you actually going to do?
Because you have two options.
You change the situation. Or you change the way you respond to it.
Sometimes that means changing your job. Your environment. Your relationships.
And sometimes… it means changing your perspective.
Focusing on the good, the commonalities. Finding meaning in what’s hard. Recognising that struggle shapes you.
As I heard recently: The greatest people have been broken.
And right behind that— Adversity is a terrible thing to waste.
In ourselves, I agree. In others?
Especially the innocent…
Adversity is a terrible thing to witness.
And that brings me to something I watched this week.
Footage from Joey Carbstrong’s latest investigation—including the uncensored version.
Kosher. Halal. Standard stunned slaughter.
It’s all equally evil.
Two things stood out—completely indistinguishable across all of them:
One: The callous disregard for the individual being killed.
Two: The visceral terror of the individual being killed.
And in witnessing that… my already brimming commitment overflowed.
Because as painful as it is to see— it matters that it’s seen.
As investigative journalist Will Potter said:
To bear witness is to say: I will not let this be hidden in darkness.
And that’s what it did for me.
It pushed my commitment past full.
To overflowing.
It also deepened my respect for the people who put themselves on the line— their safety, their freedom—for individuals the world has decided don’t matter.
And I know that sounds harsh.
However is it?
Because actions speak louder than words.
And if someone says they care… and then funds exploitation every single day with their choices—
Then what matters more? The words… or the actions?
The emphasis is on choice.
They have a choice. And right now—they’re choosing the wrong side of history.
And if you’re vegan, and you sometimes feel like your choices don’t matter?
They do. More than most people are willing to admit.
They mean life instead of death for every individual you don’t eat, wear, or exploit.
They shift demand. They signal a different future.
They create solidarity— hope— momentum.
They tell someone else, somewhere, that they’re not alone in this either.
So if you needed a reminder today—this is it. You’ve seen enough. You know enough.
And every single day— it matters. It costs lives.
And you already chose a side.
So keep choosing it.
Keep going.
Because it matters. More than you can see. More than you’re ever told.
This is the podcast I needed to hear.
And if you’re still here… Maybe it’s the one you needed too.
