Final thoughts for now! As my dear personal training clients for the past 14 years know, I’m crazy passionate about creating a fit, strong, healthy, happy vegan world.
I want to build a community of like minded exercisers. Where the vegans feel safe and understood. And the plant based curious feel supported to move at their own pace. There is no right or wrong. No good or bad vegan. Everything counts and whether you’re interested in the lifestyle for your health, for the environment, for the animals (like me) or for any other reason my intention is to be here for you.
With love and compassion,
Kate.
P.S. In the 10 Tips To Make Adopting A Vegan Lifestyle Easy seminar I share just a few of the MANY Reasons To Be Vegan.
Here’s a recap and IMPORTANTLY the links to all the claims / studies I cite.
One: A whole foods plant based diet is the ONLY diet proven to prevent and even reverse our biggest killer, Heart Disease in the majority of people.
(also type 2 diabetes, cancer, obesity). (1)
My favourite book to cover this in depth: How Not to Die, where internationally-renowned nutrition expert, physician, and founder of the AMAZING evidence based nutrition resource Nutritionfacts.org, Dr. Greger shares how: “The vast majority of premature deaths can be prevented through simple changes in diet and lifestyle.”
Two: You can get everything you need to to be fit and healthy at ANY stage of life from the plant kingdom.
So why condemn an innocent animal to death simply for taste and convenience? (2)
This is a fact agreed on by both the American and the British Dietetic Associations. Yet, we kill 60 billion land animals and 2.7 trillion marine creatures each year. These animals have the capacity to feel love and joy or pain and suffering in the exact same way as the cats and dogs we share our homes with.
Three: Eating a vegan diet is the “Single Biggest Way” to reduce your environmental impact on earth.
In these areas and more: Land. Water. Emissions. Waste Pollution. Species Extinction. Deforestation. (3) (4) (5)
A 2018 Oxford University study – which is the most comprehensive analysis to date of the damage farming does to the planet – found that ‘avoiding meat and dairy is the single biggest way to reduce your impact on Earth’ as animal farming provides just 18% of calories but takes up 83% of our farmland.
Four: We can fix our broken, inefficient food system and eliminate World Hunger.
82% of starving children live in countries where food is fed to animals who are then eaten by Western countries. That’s from the World Bank. We currently produce enough food to feed 10 billion people and yet 800 million are starving. That’s because we cycle our food through the bodies of animals to come out with vastly less calories. The most “efficient” “food” animals are factory farmed chickens. Even in these most horrific conditions the chickens “produce” only 1 calorie per 9 calories consumed.
