This conversation with Biomedical Scientist Dr Faraz Harsini covers A LOT.
I am in awe at the multitude of ways in which Faraz advocates from both an evidence based and ethical framework for a vegan world where human and non-human animals alike, live free from oppression.
Faraz, is the Founder and CEO of Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP), a non-profit which mentors and supports animal advocates, especially student organisations. ASAP is a system to harness the potential in future generations of influential people and ensure they are aware of the urgency of veganism.
Dr. Harsini is also a Cultivated Meat Bioprocessing Senior Scientist at the Good Food Institute.
His extensive background as a biomedical scientist in pharmaceutical companies, involvement in clinical trials, as well as cancer and inflammation research, makes him a very effective advocate for alternatives to animal testing.
Dr. Harsini’s impressive academic path includes: a Bachelor’s in chemical engineering, a Master’s degree in biotechnology and cancer research, and a PhD in Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics.
I could speak to Faraz for hours. It is my huge pleasure to share this exchange with you.
Please enjoy my conversation with, Biomedical Scientist Dr Faraz Harsini on Empowering Future Vegan Leaders to Abolish Cruelty Towards All Species.
In this conversation we cover:
- Dr. Harsini’s personal journey to veganism.
- How the oppression Faraz experienced growing up in Iran prepared him to be the activist and advocate he is today.
- Superior non-animal testing alternatives. With his background as a biomedical scientist in pharmaceutical companies Faraz shares his insights.
- Dr. Harsini’s non-profit Allied Scholars for Animal Protection (ASAP).
- The importance of Investing in future generations of influential people to ensure they are aware of veganism.
- How children are indoctrinated into a Carnist / speciesist society.
- The sad story of Happy and the chicken soup.
- Judgement with compassion is not bad. In fact, it is a disservice to assume someone can NOT do better with better information.
This was a conversation that inspires me to do more. To BE more outspoken. Even if it is hard.
Of so many take aways I loved Faraz’s perspective on judgement. Looking back on my life, other peoples warranted, genuine judgement with compassion has enabled me to become a better person.
If we want to do better and be better, then it’s vital we are open to hearing how.
To accept that we have blind spots and that perhaps someone else with difference life experiences and good intentions can life the veil.
