Today’s show is devoted to a vastly powerful goal getting machine. Now this thing has limitless potential however to be used effectively it needs to be aligned with a less powerful yet still vital goal setting machine
In today’s Monday Motivation show I’m focusing on: how to get Your Unconscious Mind on your fat blasting team.
Your Unconscious Mind counts for at least 95% of your total mind. It’s the one making decisions – on auto-pilot – so although your conscious mind is where you SET your goal… Your unconscious mind determines the thoughts and actions that allow you to GET your goal.
Your life reflects this unconscious programming… for better or worse.
To illustrate who’s in charge let’s say – random example here – how about if I consciously decide, Kate now whatever you do you don’t want to act all awkward in front of that dude. As much as I’m very clear that that is not the way I want to be acting… what are the chances right?
When I rock into said dude, my first response is to sink straight into a self perpetuating spiral of awkwardness. Unconscious is steering the ship and all it’s hearing is Awkward, Awkward, AWKWARD!
Whether we’re talking about the hot dude or dudette, the way you want your body to look and perform or the exercise and food you want to eat there are at least 20 prime directives to consider to get your unconscious mind working to your best advantage.
To get your unconscious mind following the goals you’re setting consciously.
I’m going to cover 4 that are super applicable to your body gain goal:
Before we power onwards though it can be helpful to think of your unconscious mind as an eager little puppy. It just wants to serve you. However, if you keep giving it mixed signals the results are not going to be so awesome.
Back to those prime directives of your unconscious mind…
One: Your Unconscious Mind can’t process a negative.
So when I say don’t act awkward it’s just hearing awkward. In the same way that when you say I don’t want fat thighs and a flabby belly… it’s just hearing fat thighs and flabby belly. Equally when you tell yourself I’m not eating cake it’s just hearing cake, Cake, CAKE!
Your solution? Frame everything that you want to do, or to have, or to be in the positive.
Two: Your Unconscious Mind takes everything personally.
This puts a whole new emphasis on the old ‘treat everyone as you would like to be treated’ doesn’t it? When you judge you’ll get judgement reflected back at you. I lived this for years.
It was really UN-fun. Once I learnt that everything I’m thinking about someone else, my unconscious mind is interpreting as thoughts about myself – and it resonated – then I made a super conscious effort to think something nice whenever I saw someone.
With every stranger I walked past I’d think something positive.
That’s the thing with changing something that’s happening at an unconscious level and not working for you… You have to practice it consciously until it becomes an unconscious habit.
So, Yes it’s a little tedious however WOW it’s worth it. It’s so much more fun now that when someone in the street looks at me I assume they’re thinking something nice rather than assume they’re thinking something awful!
How’s this applicable to your body gain goal?
It comes back to your loyal little puppy dogs desire to serve you. If it’s hearing ‘you’re fat’ ‘you’re lazy’ ‘you don’t deserve that’ ‘you always give up’ regardless of whether you’re referring to someone else or to yourself that pup’s going to take it personally.
It’s going to assume you’re talking to it… to YOU.
AND, because it wants to prove you right – because it can be debilitatingly LOYAL – it’ll hunt down evidence to support and even to bring about whatever you’re telling it.
This ties directly to show #001 where I discussed FOCUS and what you focus on expands.
Check out show 001 for more details on why we filter in and filter out is based on our unique experiences, values and beliefs… or more so how we choose to interpret our unique experiences, values and beliefs.
Your solution? Frame your thoughts about yourself and about everyone else in the positive.
Now to a third prime directive of your unconscious mind…
Three: Your Unconscious Mind can’t distinguish between real and imagined.
Like that puppy dog it’s not only loyal it’s TRUSTING. So if you’re feeding it thoughts like ‘cardio is the hardest thing in the world’ ‘everyone in the gym is thinking why’s she even bothering’ ‘trying and failing would be the end of the world’ then it’s going to believe you.
AND, yet again it’s eager to prove you right – so yet again that pup’s scampering off, working 24/7 to drag back evidence to support and to bring about whatever you’re telling it.
Your solution? Yes, again you want to frame everything in the positive… how you want it to be.
The potential is limitless.
Be bold. Imagine the best. Believe you can have it. Your ability to believe 100% in yourself and how you want it to be is going to get that loyal little pup working to drag back those opportunities to you 24/7.
Of course at that point, you’re going to have to ACT on the opportunities you’re now seeing.
You absolutely can’t simply believe them into being!
Four: Your Unconscious Mind enjoys serving and needs clear directions.
So we’ve covered how keen your unconscious mind pup is to serve you… it’s important to know you need to be clear and consistent with your directions.
Eating cake today and then absolutely-of-course-not-I’m-on-a-diet tomorrow is confusing.
Exercising today and then no-way-I’m-simply-waaay-too-tired-hungover-busy tomorrow is also confusing.
Mixed signals with your thoughts WOW-I’m-lookin-pretty-smokin-today and then OMG-I-can’t-leave-the-house-I-look-utterly-repuslsive-today and mixed signals with your actions will deliver poor results.
You’re sending you unconscious mind scampering off in a different direction each day… more likely each minute.
Your solution? To get clear on the beliefs, the thoughts and the actions that you want to become habitual.
Practice them consciously until your unconscious mind takes them and runs with them on auto-pilot.
This is the point where Goal Setting Machine (your conscious mind) and Goal Getting Machine (your unconscious mind) work together to your best fat blasting advantage.
Time to get actionable.
What is the super CLEAR, POSITIVE outcome that you’d love your unconscious mind working 24/7 at dragging opportunities back to you to take action on over the next 30 days?
I’m going to hand over to Henry Ford for one of my all time fav quotes today: “If you think you can, or you think you can’t you’re right.”
That brings us to the end of todays show. I’ll be back tomorrow with the Tuesday Tucker show and: Lean, Clean Breakfasts.
