Tim Kaufman is an exceptional story teller… and WOW does he have a powerful story to share with us today. Tim’s journey from addiction and immobility to athleticism and wellness inspires hope and might well ignite the first small step of life-changing action.
His book, ESCAPE – Breaking Free From A Self-Made Prison reveals in excruciating detail just how low and desperate Tim got after a terrifying health diagnosis in his early 20’s. prompted his descension into addiction to prescription medication, alcohol and fast food.
By 37 Tim weighed over 400 pounds and was unable to perform simple daily tasks. He had lost his interest in life and had almost given up. When Tim started his journey to regain his health, it was only to buy some time between funerals for his dear wife Heather.
This is not a linear change your diet, change your life – it’s now all smooth sailing story – and subsequently, it is so much more powerful.
This transformation is about Gratitude, Hope and making a start with tiny steps – it was getting out of his work chair twice for Tim. Importantly, Tim believes the mistakes he made when attempting this big lifestyle change, led to his success because at least he got started.
His message? Anyone can transition to a healthy, active lifestyle and dramatically change their life regardless of their current situation or size.
I could have spent hours with Tim. Please enjoy this conversation with the fabulously open-hearted, genuine and generous Tim Kaufman.
In this conversation with cover:
- As a newly married man with big dreams, Tim was diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome in his twenties.
- With that diagnosis the doctors advice was incredibly disheartening.
- Tim’s addiction to painkillers, alcohol, and fast food led him to weigh over 400 pounds, riddled with chronic diseases, and near immobility.
- What advice does Tim wish had been shared with him all those years ago?
- A whole food plant-based diet saved Tim’s life.
- The reality that, plants will not cure everything… “BUT, that is not a reason to discount what they can do.” What has the way Tim eats done for him?
- Tim’s book, ESCAPE – Breaking Free From A Self-Made Prison. This was not an easy book to write.
- The power of gratitude, journaling, and small, imperfect steps.
- Why a comfortable life is not a good life.
- Tim’s quote: “A journey worth travelling has no end,” the last couple of years have been rough – even though Tim has been taking better actions.
- The importance of / how to cultivate hope.
It’s easy to intellectualise “a comfortable life is not a good life” and hard to live it.
Over the years I’ve encountered people who are great at dishing out the advice when times are good. When they are winning. Yet when hit with a sizeable challenge, their attitude crumbles.
To be able to keep pushing through and contributing generously in the world, when times are tough is so much more impressive. As Tim shares: You will get to the other side, stronger and more experienced. You are not alone.
Regardless of how far gone you think you are, there is always hope. Tim Kaufman Share on XTim’s website: https://fatmanrants.com/
